Rally on gravel and worry about rock damage Heavy Duty Steel

2. Length

If your car Choose
Is anything except a stock widebody GD STI GC Length
Is a stock widebody GD STI Leave both length boxes unticked (GD length)

Aluminum

More than strong enough for 95% of builds, and much lighter than steel. Made from 6061 aluminum with 3-piece bearing joints. Its one weakness is rock damage: on a gravel rally car, stones thrown up by the tires can gouge the softer aluminum.

Heavy Duty Steel

For anyone who wants the strongest link possible. Made from 4130 steel tubing (1.25" x .083") with T45 press-in, weld-in bungs. It is heavier than aluminum.

Length

Length How long Use it for
GD length (no length box ticked) 13.25" link, 16.25" hole to hole Stock widebody GD STI, or a wider track on other cars
GC Length 10mm shorter than GD Stock length for most cars, not only the GC
370z Length 5/8" shorter than GD Our 350z/370z rear frame with stock 370z axles

Which cars are GC length? We don't have a complete list, but we believe nearly everything except the stock widebody GD STI uses GC length.

Running GD length on a GC-length car doesn't hurt anything, but each side sits 10mm further out, so your total rear track width grows by 20mm. Check that your wheels and tires still clear the fenders.

Need another length? We can make custom lengths for lifted or wide-stance cars. Contact us.

The sway link mount fits over the knuckle, so it has to match your knuckles. Use the table under "Which one do I need?" to pick. There are a lot of knuckle variations. If you're not sure which you have, contact us before ordering.

Powder coat

Powder coating adds about 2-6 weeks. See Powder Coating. The sway link mount is a tight, cup-shaped fit over the knuckle, so expect the powder coat inside it to get scratched during install.

Fitment

A rear part for the GC/GD group:

  • Impreza / WRX / STI 1993-2007 (GC, GF, GM, GD, GG)
  • Legacy 1990-1999 (BC, BF, BJ, BD, BG, BK)
  • Outback 1995-1999 (BD, BG, BK)
  • Forester 1998-2008 (SF, SG)

The 2000-2004 Legacy and Outback (BE, BH) are not included, because only our GC/GD front parts fit them.

Common questions

What comes in a set?
4 lateral links and 2 sway links. Aluminum and steel sets are the same.

Is aluminum strong enough?
For 95% of builds, yes. The only concern is rock damage on gravel rally cars. Choose steel if that worries you, or if you just want the strongest link.

My car isn't a GD STI. Should I still get GC length?
Yes. GC length is the stock length for nearly everything except the stock widebody GD STI.

What happens if I pick the wrong length?
GD length on a GC-length car pushes each wheel out 10mm, so 20mm more track width in total. It won't hurt the car, but check your wheel and tire clearance.

How do I tell STI knuckles apart?
Check the rear hub bolt pattern. STI rear knuckles have a 5x114.3 hub. If yours has a different bolt pattern, choose Non-STI.
